Sleep and I have always had something of a tumultuous relationship. I’ve had any number of sleep studies and it has always been annoying at best. After all, how can you sleep when you have dozens of wires attached to your scalp, legs and arms. With monitors in your nose and taped to your throat? Short answer is, not well.
Enter “Zeo” (not to be confused with the Power Rangers of the same name) – A device which claims to be able to analyze your sleep patterns by tracking how long you spend in each sleep state: Light sleep, Deep sleep, REM, how many times you woke up, plus how long you were actually awake.
Best of all, it does it all via a single, comfy headband that transmits via bluetooth to either your iPhone/iPad/iTouch or to a station you can purchase.
I was a little incredulous at first but I’ll be damned if it doesn’t work. Works well even. It shows exactly how much time you actually spent sleeping, how much time you spent awake, and the quality of your sleep. A sample of my actual sleep is shown below. I apparently spend a lot of time dreaming, which makes sense given the amount of time I spend dreaming while I’m awake.
Only potential drawback I could see was that I’m already a little paranoid about absorbing radiation into my brain via cell phones, etc. So the thought of strapping a bluetooth transmitter directly to my skull for an extra eight hours a day doesn’t help said paranoia. But whether it gives me brain cancer or not, at least I’ll know I’m well rested.
With Christmas rolling around, you should check it out for yourself or for a friend.
