Cool Music Software

So I was told by one of my Twitter followers about some interesting open license music software (DAW, Sequencer, Mixer) that his “genius son” created.  Whenever my Dad said that his “genius son” did something, it was him being sarcastic.  But apparently this guy actually has a genius son who did something amazing.

Go to http://non.tuxfamily.org to check it out for yourself.  It’s been a while since I’ve seen something like this done on a *nix platform, and having to compile my own binaries took me back to my college days.  Only thing that was missing was my being a drink away from being drunk and spending all my free time on a computer.

Never mind, it’s exactly like my college days.

The Brokennewz Story

Broken NewzOkay, so I have a lot of crosses I bear.  One of the bigger ones being the fact that Brokennewz.com died under my watch.  To be fair though, it wasn’t entirely my fault.  A couple of weeks after I took over, the third party hosting server which had all the history of BN in it died completely.  What’s more, so did every back up.  In short, all of the content it ever had disappeared and wasn’t available anymore.  After trying for a few weeks to recover from said disaster, one thing lead to another and over time it eventually went away completely.

But just in time for the holidays, this story has a happy ending.

To mark the tenth anniversary of BN, Bill Doty (its founder) has rebuilt BN into something bigger, brighter and prettier than ever.  Don’t believe me?  Check out the beta version at Brokennewz.com for yourself.

Who knows, we might have to do something to mark its tenth anniversary and its relaunch…
